Rayil
December 11, 2012
An emerald fringe stole? An ivory sequined top? Right off the bat you may be wondering where you can purchase such items for yourself… but this time it’s your kids that are the lucky ducks.
Offering delightful options like tunics, pants, and dresses; Rayil was largely inspired by Arena Haati’s fond recollections of time spent as a child admiring her mother’s saris. Passionate about helping kids connect with India’s rich heritage, Haati owns a company called Gnaana (which does just that). Also having a love of the many different kinds of cotton and silk available across India (over 300!), creating a clothing line for kids was a natural extension of her interests. New Delhi based designer Moutushi Sarkar was the ideal choice for the project; having worked with the likes of Miss Selfridge and Urban Outfitters.
All of the clothes have elements of India’s rich fabrics and traditions. The tunics are playful and effervescent, the pants are gentlemanly while being perfectly age appropriate. The skirts are guaranteed to make little girls feel like princesses, and the scarves add a lush element to outfits for both boys and girls. This Spring 2013 line features cotton Khandi, Northern India’s Benarasi silk, and Central India’s Chanderi silk.
Sarkar and Haati have created a line definitely worth getting excited about. Excellently blending chic design with amazing fabrics, the Spring 2013 line from Rayil is something we’d all love to dress our little ones in! You can start pre-ordering now, however shipping doesn’t begin until February.

Nidhi Chanani: Everyday Love
November 19, 2012
Creating and running BollyInstyle has been (and continues to be) a fantastic experience for me. I mean, I get to share and highlight the many things that I’m interested in and passionate about—it’s pretty great. Whether it’s about fashion, function, family, fun, food, etc., everything has an underlying theme: showcasing those in the South Asian design space. I love supporting South Asian artists and it warms my heart to see small ventures & companies do well. It’s especially fun to watch artists gain popularity and be able to post updates on them.
When illustrator and artist Nidhi Chanani first started I was immediately drawn to her joyful energy and magical artwork. Her illustrations are delightfully whimsical… they’re so appealing for so many reasons. They really resonate with people of all ages. Her website, Everyday Love, just launched and is radiant. I’m so excited to see her doing so splendidly! On Everyday Love you can purchase prints, cards, books, magnets, buttons, and gift cards. You can browse her portfolio, and catch up on her blog. Own a shop and interested in carrying some of Nidhi’s art? There is also a wholesale section.
In addition to being featured on a ton of places like Daily Candy and BBC Radio; Nidhi was also honored earlier this year as a Champion of Change at the White House. Check her out, why don’t you? Tell me what sort of fun finds you come across while browsing her prints—she has so many up & available!

Saffron Hue
November 2, 2012
I’ve posted some fantastic finds lately… but ideas for things I could get the babies continue to swirl around my mind. Moms out there, you know what I’m talking about. Well, a little bird let me know about the earth friendly line of baby products Saffron Hue, and now I get to share it with you. (Plus, extra points for a little bit of rhyming?)
Even if you’re not currently shopping for lil’ baby gifts, take a peek—the sweet photos will definitely put a smile on your face.
Saffron Hue’s bibs, swaddles, snuggle bags, quilts, and blankets are a wonderful option in the world of green baby products. Possibly irritating dyes and synthetic materials? You won’t find any in the Saffron Hue line. The items are all 100% cotton, and the adorable and energetic designs are printed with Azo free dyes. Since the designs are created through time-honored Indian block printing, you get uniqueness and quality.
Now that you’ve gotten the important details about the safe and natural aspects of Saffron Hue’s products, can we talk about how adorable they are? The snuggle bags are cute and cozy, and the swaddle sets look so very comforting for little ones. The blankets/quilts look oh so soft! All the designs are quite stylish too—ones you’ll want to show off.
Everything is really reasonably priced: $29 for a burp cloth set , $75 for a quilt (both available in various color combinations). Now that’s something I can definitely get on board with.

Baby Baazaar
November 2, 2012

Oh yes, what a wondrous thing, the internet— connecting people from around the world, making an immense amount of information available, helping streamline the ways we do almost everything. (And of course, providing a plethora of cute kitten videos for when you’re feeling a bit like procrastinating.) Given all of that, I think one of the coolest things about the internet is the opportunity it provides new businesses to reach new people.
So here is my point: a new and wonderful business, Baby Baazaar. Launched recently by NYC mom Supriya Himatsingka, Baby Baazaar sells eco-friendly toys, books, and blankets for kids. All the products are created in an environmentally friendly manner. Highlighting the importance of quality handmade design, Himatsingka has created a place for parents to purchase hard-to-find ‘green’ items for their kids.
The blankets are printed with Azo-free dyes, the toys are organic and ASTM approved, the books aren’t even available in US stores yet! All of the items are made in the East through traditional artisan means. The blankets (I love this peacock quilt) are designed by Himatsingka in New York, then handmade in Jaipur. The whimsical stuffed toys like the this monkey family are handmade in Sri Lanka (by the same women that hand weave the cotton that creates the creatures). These details would be a fun note to add if you’re gifting anything from Baby Baazaar, or to tell your kids when they’re older and interested in such things.
Definitely give Baby Baazaar a visit when you get a chance!
