Holstee Manifesto

January 25, 2012

Life has been a bit crazy for me lately…(8 week old twins and a toddler:). Shall I say more. It’s always nice to have reminders about the things that are important. That is how I discovered this manifesto poster by Holstee. I eagerly looked up the company and fell in love their story and products. Two brothers, along with a business partner started the company without a business plan in mind but instead created a mantra “This is your LIFE”, which has been seen over 50,000,000 times!

Another meaningful product that caught my attention is Holstee’s Upcycled Wallet. Working with an NGO in India, Holstee came up with a ‘no two alike’ wallet made from recycled plastic bags and newspapers collected from the streets of Delhi.

Check out this video based upon the Manifesto. This video will be part of my new morning routine! Sometimes certain words are so encouraging. Life is all about that. Thank you HOLSTEE.

Wearing The Same Dress For 365 Days

May 12, 2010

I couldn’t resist and had to post this IMMEDIATELY!

New Yorker, Sheena Matheiken took on a project like no other, wearing one dress for an entire year! What the…or Why, you may ask? She wanted to prove that one can have style and be socially conscious at the same time. However, Sheena had something else up her sleeves. The backbone of this idea called Uniform Project was a year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation. So, Sheena reinvented her black dress with numerous styles, wearing donated or etsy-esque accessories while setting aside one dollar every day for Ankaksha. $365.00 pays for the cost of one child’s school year in India. Is this not genius? One dress worn differently 365 times equals one child’s education.

I’m bummed I found out about this a little late, but actually putting this effort and creativity into a charity project is why it has been so successful! Sheena started playing dress-up in May 2009 and put her black dress to rest a few weeks ago, raising $80,607; that means 223 kids will receive adequate education!

I have reached out to Sheena asking if she’d like to do a Q&A for BollyInstyle. Fingers crossed. Please Sheena, do consider….pretty please? I am dying to know the ‘who, what, where, when, why, how, and what’s next’ for Uniform Project and yourself.

This is MUST see video for all. Thanks for documenting an inspirational journey. Love the project. Love the cause. Love Sheena!
