Nidhi Chanani: Everyday Love

November 19, 2012

Creating and running BollyInstyle has been (and continues to be) a fantastic experience for me. I mean, I get to share and highlight the many things that I’m interested in and passionate about—it’s pretty great. Whether it’s about fashion, function, family, fun, food, etc., everything has an underlying theme: showcasing those in the South Asian design space. I love supporting South Asian artists and it warms my heart to see small ventures & companies do well. It’s especially fun to watch artists gain popularity and be able to post updates on them.

When illustrator and artist Nidhi Chanani first started I was immediately drawn to her joyful energy and magical artwork. Her illustrations are delightfully whimsical… they’re so appealing for so many reasons. They really resonate with people of all ages. Her website, Everyday Love, just launched and is radiant. I’m so excited to see her doing so splendidly! On Everyday Love you can purchase prints, cards, books, magnets, buttons, and gift cards. You can browse her portfolio, and catch up on her blog. Own a shop and interested in carrying some of Nidhi’s art? There is also a wholesale section.

In addition to being featured on a ton of places like Daily Candy and BBC Radio; Nidhi was also honored earlier this year as a Champion of Change at the White House. Check her out, why don’t you? Tell me what sort of fun finds you come across while browsing her prints—she has so many up & available!

Maelu Infinity Scarves

November 1, 2012

Scarves are one of my favorite accessories… they’re such an easy way to change up the feel of an outfit and add an instant additional element of style to your look. Maelu Infinity Scarves are some of my favorite new scarves available online, and they’re also available on the great shopping site Etsy. If you haven’t heard about Etsy yet, take note! You can browse & purchase a TON of items; and it is a fantastic place to find unique handmade and vintage pieces.

The Maelu Designs Etsy shop includes tunic dresses, turban headbands, and scarves. All of the clothing is created with high quality natural fibers and hand-bock printed with vegetable dyes. The designs are exotic and look a bit vintage, which I adore.

In terms of the scarves, there are tube/infinity cowl neck styles like this ‘Red Autumn Leaves‘ design, and extra long styles perfect for use as a scarf or shawl/wrap like this ‘Tribal Paisley’ Chanderi Silk option. The headbands are IDEAL for bad hair days—worn traditionally or as a chic turban. A little dry shampoo + one of these babies, and you’re good to go! Plus, a portion of proceeds from Maelu Designs goes directly to www.globalfundforwomen.org, which ‘helps to support the advancement of women’s human rights around the world’.

Designer Meghna Dave clearly puts a lot of thought and love into the items she creates, and I’m glad to help support her endeavors by sharing her Etsy shop with you.

P.S. You can also follow her adventures on her blog here, check it out!

Shaadi Belles

October 8, 2012

BollyInstyle has been dormant since the birth of my twins….so so SO sorry readers! Just needed a break to get the family adjusted. While the house has been a happy chaos, my inbox has filled up many many new findings, which I plan to unveil slowly but surely. Happy to be back and hope to start connecting with you all again.

Let’s start off with some gorgeousness!   A new wedding site that will have you clicking away for hours.  Is there anything more magical than watching two people head-over-heels in love tie the knot? Well, perhaps going through it yourself:)

Even though I have been married for five years, I still love perusing inspirational wedding blogs and websites. (I suppose you could call me an ever enthusiastic romantic!) I mean, I can still use a lot of the ideas for parties and future weddings of friends, right?

Whether you’re a future blushing bride or simply looking; you MUST check out Shaadi Belles. I’m so excited to share this site with you…and pretty proud to say that a dear friend is behind it all.

As the #1 source for South Asian wedding inspiration, you can get lost for hours browsing through stunning inspiring images of everything from gowns to food and drinks, stationary, beauty, and more. The bridal mehndi photos make me want to decorate my hands and feet immediately.

Another fantastic thing about the site? You can browse through images that spark your imagination by color! Not only do dress, jewelry, and makeup photos in that color come up; but also decoration, flowers, and venue ideas as well. Plus, I love anything that makes it easy for me to save my favorite photos in one spot. Shaadi Belles is very similar to Pinterest in the way you can ‘heart’ your top images.

And hey, dear readers, go ahead and ‘like’ them on Facebook as well!

Of Indian Origin

February 17, 2011

Here at BollyInstyle I can share the best part of blogging: building a community. It’s great for us and for readers to have a guide to all things Asian inspired – but it’s really exciting to read comments from readers about our work and meet other bloggers who have similar interests. Just yesterday I had a great conversation with an talented Indian textile designer who’s a fan of the blog and had tips for my upcoming trip to India – we are going to meet up in NYC once I’m back from Delhi and I can’t wait! So today we are introducing you to a blog we admire, Of Indian Origin. As Shital notes, we have a similar agenda: sourcing nearly everything Asian inspired, from music, art, fashion and everything in between, for our readers. We love founder Nisha John’s taste and design! Formatted like a magazine, this UK-based blog is a comprehensive and stylish online guide that we adore. In particular, I love her support of student work that’s part of her “student feature” tab – what a great way to give aspiring artists a boost! The blog is a must-see and we are adding it to the blogroll.

So check out Nisha’s blog – and let us know some of your other favorites! Unlike print work, blogging is a great way for many voices to co-exist and we would love to know where you turn to every day for inspiration. And keep reaching out to us with any tips for who and what to feature, feedback on our posts, and anything else that catches your fancy. We love hearing from you!
