Vintage Sari Blankets

November 4, 2009
Who doesn’t love to snuggle up with a throw? These delicate Jeanette Farrier blankets are handmade in India from five vintage patterned saris layered together and tightly stitched with bright, multicolored thread.

Jeanette Farrier’s double Kantha quilt was used by New York artist John Derian in his Cape Cod home, which was featured on BollyInstyle here.

There are many ‘pluses’ behind these blankets; they can be tossed in the washing machine,  each piece is reversible, and best of all the makers are women from Calcutta villages that are paid well and are able to work in their own homes.
These cozy blankets, which are considered traditional Kantha art, measure 69″ x 32″ and are available at Circa Trade.

From The White House To Your House

November 3, 2009

I found this gorgeous piece of rug by STARK, who has had the privilege of furnishing the White House since the Kennedy Administration. Although the room is light, the rug does not overpower the room, creating a fresh aura. The color waves are rich, neutral, and simple. Stark specializes in high end custom designed carpet, fabric, furniture and walIcovering for both the residential and contract market. This place is definitely a design mecca. The family owned business meets and collaborates with top interior designers and editors from all across the design world.

This particular rug is called New Oriental Chinese and was designed by the creative director of Stark Carpet. Simply Gorgeous!

All Of The Above With Jay Sean

November 3, 2009

Mr. Jay Sean is EVERYWHERE! From appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres show last week to appearances on MTV and more importantly, has the #2 spot on iTunes USA chart and #1 spot on The Billboard Hot 100. His hit single Down featuring Lil Wayne hails to the US music scene from the UK. BollyInstyle loves the fact that Jay Sean is the first artist of Indian descent to have a top 5 hit song on the Billboard charts. Jay is fully opening doors for other artists with diverse cultural backgrounds.

I love acoustic music. Therefore, I had to post this live rendention of Down done acoustic style by Jay Sean. Jay Sean’s version sounds very sincere and sounds great live!

Even better, you must check out Tiffany Alvord singing her string playing version of Jay Sean’s Down. This girl has amazing talent. I can listen to her all day. Enjoy…

Add A Little Spice With Masala Baby

November 3, 2009
This is a tough one, BollyInstyle likes everything from Masala Baby. The name says it all. Created in 2009, this hip indian inspired brand just introduced their Masala signature line of modern kids clothing. It is clearly evident the creators of Masala Baby has a strong love for India’s festival of colors and heritage. They fused the two adding a dash of modern urban flare, oh so well. The collection includes infant and toddler clothing for ages 6 months to 4 years. Finally, a line that includes designs for the little dudes. Cute, cute, very cute!

BollyInstyle’s pick is the White Peacock Tunic (also comes in teal blue) paired with the Pure Navy Tunic Pants. That is adorable and oh so stylish for fall. :)

Add a little ‘sugar’ n spice in your baby’s life. You can see the entire line HERE.

Rugs With A Sense Of Humor

November 2, 2009

I had to showcase these funny rugs in BollyInstyle’s just because section…it looks so cute with a child on it!  Although these rugs may not be indian inspired, they sure inspire me to lay down with my son and read a storybook.

The Pop Up Book and Bon Appetit rugs are created by Bob Foundation, a design shop by Mitsunori Asakura and Hiromi Suzuki, both graduates from St. Martin’s College in London.

Each piece costs 26,667 Yen (approx. USD 249).
