Hybrid Music From Sweden And Pakistan

I have been a fan of The Concretes for some time. Victoria Bergsman, the original member The Concretes and female vocals to Peter Bjorn and John's hit song 'Young Folks' recently released a new album, East of Eden where she went to Pakistan to record the music. Victoria was inspired by qawwali music after listening to Abida Parveen, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Sufi Islam. She decided she wanted to complete East of Eden in Pakistan, using local musicians.

East of Eden is a blend of Northern European vocals and the traditional sounds of Pakistan. I like that Victoria brought something new to the table. An interesting listen for sure.

Here is a documentary from National Geographic showing Victoria's journey to Pakistan.   Her voice is so unique.  Who would have ever thought of blending it with qawwali sounds!
