Thank You City Saheli!

October 30, 2009

I am so honored to be featured on CitySaheli, and wanted to share the news with everyone! Be sure to check out CitySaheli. Although geared toward South Asian women, there is a good deal of valuable advice and information for all. Click HERE to go directly to the article, or scroll down to see it in full…

Decorating a home is never an easy undertaking. Choosing a design scheme can help focus your search and make the job easier. A great option is to look to South Asia for inspiration and guidance. Today, authentic South Asian decor and textiles are very popular and can be found everywhere, from high end specialty shops to retail chain stores. India’s use of vibrant colors, unique textiles, distinct patterns and detailed wood carvings have inspired numerous western designers in their home décor lines. Today you don’t need to travel across the continent to get some South Asian flavor.

Finding the right pattern or piece of furniture to fit your space takes time and patience. In a search to help our Sahelis find the perfect South Asian inspired décor, CitySaheli came across an eye-catching blog, BollyInstyle, which focuses on anything and everything South Asian inspired. Shital, the woman behind BollyInstyle, brings to her readers links and photos of new fashion, furniture, accessories, products, designs, events, and more, with a focus on Asia and India. Shital strives to expose India’s colorful culture, feminine design, and glamorous style. For a taste and some fantastic designs, check out the inspiration board below.

So, when decorating your home, look to your roots. South Asian inspired goods are everywhere, keep your eye out and add this flavor to your everyday life.

Creative Side Of Home Fashion

October 29, 2009

One visit to NYC brought me to ABC Carpet and Home and ever since it has been an incredible resource for me over the years. When I walked into the store, I just about died of excitement. They sell not only carpets but many things for the home, such as antiques, pillows, home decor, furniture, bedding, linens, gardening accessories, crystal, silver, housewares, and gifts.  I’m talking about some fabulous store level floor candy! If budget was not involved, my entire house would be furnished from here. I didn’t realize they had an online store till recently when a designer friend told me that ABC FINALLY started selling online. ABC Carpet and Home is BollyInstyle’s favorite retailer for rugs and and unique home decor.

If you aren’t from the New York area—don’t fret, they’ve marked down a selection of luxe rugs and are offering them on their website. BollyInstyle favorite? The Mandala rug, seen here. Handwoven in India, with a lovely metallic thread motif in sophisticated colors, this rug would make a major statement in any room. And the best part is the price. The rug runs for $349 for a 3.5′ x 5.5′. Other online benefits, 1.) Free delivery orders over $250 2.) Receive an extra 10% off on your next online purchase of any rug or carpet (enter code sale10).

Page Turner Gudrun Sjödén

October 7, 2009

You know when you find that one book that you just can’t put down, a page turner? Well, yes, catalogs can do the same thing. I just got the Gudrun Sjödén catalog last night in the mail – LOVE IT!

Gudrun’s inspiration comes from every corner of the world – India, Guatemala, Bhutan, Mexico, Mongolia, Brazil, Uzbekistan, and the list goes on. Gudrun Sjödén is a Swedish company with great presence into parts of Europe and has a really big following in Germany. Her new collection is inspired by a trip to Bhutan. Although the clothes are a little bold for me, I love their scarves and tights, and favor their home collection much much more. BollyInstyle favorite ~ fabrics with the dots.

Their website also shows views from their photo shoot in Bhutan. Very transporting from my little desk in the US!

Do you want a catalog? Here is the US website where you can order a free copy of their catalog too!

Sacred Jewelry Designer Rosena Sammi

October 7, 2009
A hobby turned to success for Rosena Sammi.  Influences from her Sri Lankan Tamil background originates a jaw dropping jewelry line that blends east and west to perfection.  Versatility allows you to wear Rosena Sammi in a corporate setting as well as a nightly soiree.
Rosena Sammi sources her stones from Jaipur, India and commissions the crème de la crème of artisans to produce them. She has the most fabulously opulent bracelets, bangles, rings, earrings and necklaces. All of this beauty with an affordable price tag, ranging from $49-$500.  Her latest collection Passage to India takes you on the journey to different cities and their cultures, following the book, “Passage to India” by E.M. Forster.
Collections include Passage to India, Timeless, Kismat, and Out of the Past.  BollyInstyle’s favorite is the Kismat nameplate necklaces featuring phrases in traditional indian Sanskrit.  It reminds me of Carrie Bradshaw’s signature name pendant from Sex In The City. As rings go, we’re in love, love, love with the antique Ghandi ring from the ‘Timeless’ collection.
Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff have been seen wearing a Rosena Sammi ‘Bliss’ Nameplate Necklace.  It has also been worn on the hit TV show Gossip Girl.

Rosena Sammi Jewelry is available at Henri Bendel, Patricia Field, Planet Blue, and Intermix. You will blow a couple hours and go nuts visiting her website.
